25mm Timber panels will be machined with tongue and groove and installed on battens with special T-nails. The flooring planks are 100 -120mm wide, 21 - 22mm thick and 1400- 2500mm in length. Solid timber flooring will shrink and expand to changes in air humidity between winter and summer. Gaps of up to 3mm between the flooring panels can develop over a period of time after installation. These gaps have to be seen as normal for a solid timber floor. Hand varnished floors are not as perfect as factory finished floors, but the overall finish is better than a factory finished floor. The floor is also more resistant to moisture because the entire floor area is varnished and not only the individual flooring panels. This is very important for Kitchens, Toilets and bathrooms. Oiling: The Oiling of floors has become a big fashion in Europe once again, it gives the most natural finish and best protection to a timber floor. The oil penetrates the wood and protects the timber, scratches are much easier to repair than a varnished floor. The now newly developed floor oils are non-toxic and do not require as much maintenance as the older generation. In the first year, the floor will have to be re-oiled once. Oiled floors require more maintenance than varnished floors. For heavy-duty floors such as Restaurants and Dance floors, only an oiled floor should be used.
